BitTorrent is a powerful way to distribute large files, open datasets, public-domain media, software, and community-created work. Finding what is available, understanding where a listing came from, and seeing whether its swarm is active can still be unnecessarily difficult.

Torrentory was created to make that discovery process clearer.

It is a searchable community torrent index built around fast search, transparent source provenance, and honest swarm data. The aim is simple: organise public torrent metadata into a structured catalogue without pretending to know more than the available data can support.

Search the swarm

Torrentory brings community submissions and metadata from public indexes into one searchable place.

The main search experience is designed to get out of the way. Enter a title or subject, narrow the results by category, and compare useful information without moving through layers of clutter. Separate Browse, Recent, and Collection views provide other ways to explore the index, while saved items make it easier to return to a record later.

The catalogue covers categories including:

An optional content setting keeps adult listings out of the default experience.

Provenance on every record

A torrent listing is more useful when its origin is visible.

Each record in Torrentory identifies its uploader or original source. Community submissions and records discovered through third-party public indexes retain that distinction instead of being presented as if they all came from the same place.

That provenance does not determine whether the underlying content is lawful or endorse a listing. It gives people clearer context about the metadata they are viewing and creates a more accountable foundation for the index.

Measured, not invented

Torrent metadata arrives in stages, and Torrentory is designed to show that honestly.

A magnet link can be indexed immediately. File sizes and file lists appear once the underlying torrent metadata has actually been retrieved. Seeder and leecher figures are displayed only after a tracker measurement is available.

When information has not yet been collected, Torrentory marks it as pending rather than filling the space with an estimate. Swarm figures are time-sensitive snapshots, so the interface treats them as measurements rather than permanent facts.

This approach makes it easier to understand what is known, what is still being retrieved, and when activity was last checked.

Community submissions

Torrentory also allows people to submit torrent metadata to the catalogue.

Submitters are required to confirm that they own the material, have permission to distribute it, or are sharing something that can lawfully be redistributed. This makes rights information part of the submission flow instead of an afterthought.

As with any community index, the systems around moderation, abuse reporting, notice handling, and legal review matter alongside the search experience. Torrentory’s legal page explains the distinction between a listing and the independently operated swarms and trackers that make peer-to-peer distribution possible.

A focused new product in the Collective

Torrentory joins the Crooli Collective as a focused tool for discovering distributed files.

Its visual language is compact and information-led, but the larger idea is transparency: show where metadata came from, distinguish retrieved facts from pending fields, and keep the route from search to source understandable.
